Frequently asked questions
Why does a split show two different amounts?
When a total cannot divide evenly, Tip Calc $ assigns the remaining cents explicitly. For example, one person may pay $3.34 while two people pay $3.33. The shares always equal the total.
Does receipt scanning upload my photos?
No. Text recognition runs on your device. Receipt images and saved calculations stay in the app’s local storage unless you choose to share them.
Why must I review scanned values?
Receipts vary widely and OCR can be uncertain. The app always shows a review screen so you can correct the merchant, date, subtotal, tax, and total before they enter the calculator.
How do I remove saved receipts?
Open History, select a saved bill, and choose Delete. You can also use Edit to select and delete multiple records. Deleting a record also removes its locally stored receipt images.
Can I use the app offline?
Yes. Manual calculation, receipt OCR, and saved history work without an internet connection. Ads and consent messaging may require a connection.
